PUBLIC MISINFORMATION ON THE REMOVAL OF RELIGIOUS AND MORAL EDUCATION (RME) FROM THE 2019/2020 DRAFT CURRICULUM. GNACOPS EDUCATES PUBLIC.

The Ghana National Council of private schools, GNACOPS has received numerous calls from managers of member schools seeking clarification on the recent speculations about the removal of Religious and Moral Education as a subject from the proposed 2019-2020 curriculum which is under review.
The speculations has it that the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NACCA) has proposal for the removal of Religious and Moral Education (RME) from the Basic School curriculum.

Many people including Educationists, the clergy and other well-meaning organisations have kicked against the     proposal with the claim that RME has been a traditional means used over the years for character formation and transformation in schools and urged Government not to cancel it.

The Councils' Training and Research department upon a critical study of the proposed curriculum is of the view that,
the information which is totally false and misleading is born out of a lack of understanding of current trends in education delivery.

The   research department wish to point out that, education delivery.
Especially in the 21st century, has become a dynamic machinery that always focus on the learning outcomes and put the interest of the learner first. The ongoing basic Education curriculum reforms is focusing on total child development thereby targeting content delivery that has great potentials in    the transformation of the child.

In the draft, Proposed Subjects/Learning areas for Kindergarten and Primary Level by    the National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NACCA), sighted by the Ghana      National Council of Private Schools research team, RME among other subjects such as Citizenship Education have been integrated to form a universally applied subjected  “Our World and Our People”.
With respect to this, curriculum mapping and curriculum integration approaches have    been adopted by NACCA to be abreast with modern strategies in the drafting of the proposed curriculum having its content in line with the contexts of 21st century educational delivery.

To this end, the council would like to allay the fears of all interested parties by making them aware that unlike the previous curriculum where Religious and Moral Education was a stand-alone subject with no bearing on other areas of study, in the proposed curriculum, it has been integrated with other civic and culturally related subject to make it more meaningful and practical to the learner. The council is therefore calling on the general public to give the instructions and experts in curriculum development the maximum     support to develop a well-meaning curriculum that would enhance and promote educational delivery in the country.
